
Jill Yamasawa
College and Career Readiness Teacher, Poet
Jill Yamasawa is a college and career readiness teacher and poet. Her students won the seventh Hawaiʻi E Ola Pono award for promoting a positive school culture. Her recent focus is a school-community event, What Now?, which is produced in part by her students. Jill is a National Board Certified teacher, a former Hope Street Group fellow, and Hawaiʻi higher education policy analyst for the National Council of Teachers of English. She holds a BA in English from Santa Clara University, an MA in English, and creative writing and teaching certificates from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. Her book of poems, Aftermath, deals with the intersection of American imperialism, militarization, and public education in Hawaiʻi.
