Jack Dieckmann
Associate Director of Curriculum, (SCALE) & Director of Research at Youcubed at Stanford
Jack Dieckmann is the Associate Director of Curriculum at the Stanford Center for Assessment, Learning, and Equity (SCALE). For the past 5 years, he has led a vibrant team of math specialists in creating math performance assessments, curriculum, and rubrics. His team has worked with Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium since its inception on prototype task design of on-demand performance assessments that include prompts for students to explain their reasoning. Currently at SCALE, he and his team are developing a rigorous project-based learning course in 6th grade math with funding from Lucas Education Research. He also serves as the Director of Research with Jo Boaler at Stanford University. As a scholar of math teaching, Dr. Dieckmann's research interest is in the area of mathematical explanation (oral and written), especially for linguistically diverse students at the middle and high school levels, collaborating with Kenji Hakuta at Understanding Language. For the past 11 years, Dieckmann has taught in the Stanford Teacher Education Program (STEP).
